## Summary

The 2026 Data & AI Barometer, published by Coface with Les Echos Etudes and based on a survey of 900 decision-makers, shows that 60% of French companies have no formal framework for the use of AI (35% have no measures or projects at all, and a quarter are considering the matter without rules in place), and that only 17% have defined, formalised and communicated a usage policy. The obstacles cited are data security and compliance (41%), lack of internal maturity (31%) and trust in the analyses (30%). Large companies (with more than €100 million in revenue) describe themselves as advanced nearly three times as often as the smallest ones. The article links this governance gap to Article 4 of the AI Act, rewritten by Regulation 2026/1744, which requires companies to promote AI literacy among their staff, under the supervision of national authorities since 2 August 2026.
