AI in tourism and hospitality
Hotel chains have widely adopted AI agents for customer service, though a study by h2c finds organisational readiness to embed them fully remains limited. Spain’s Piñero group shows what mature deployment looks like: its AI assistants handle more than 500,000 customer queries a year with over 94 % accuracy, while travel agency Worldia cut its workforce by 40 % without losing revenue or client satisfaction. In the United States, adoption in hospitality and restaurants still trails other sectors, at 11–15 %, against 53.7 % in information services, according to Ramp and Revelio Labs.
Hotel chains deploy AI agents with measured results
A study by h2c finds that AI adoption is widespread among hotel chains, though organisational readiness to embed it across processes remains limited. Spain’s Piñero group illustrates what mature deployment looks like: its assistant ecosystem handles more than 500,000 customer-service queries a year, with accuracy above 94 % and 90 % positive ratings, cutting requests passed to back-office staff by around 30 %. Internally, more than 300 employees hold Microsoft 365 Copilot licences, and 95 % of staff in its adoption programmes use AI tools several times a week, with estimated productivity gains of up to 15 %. Elsewhere in tourism, Satisfi Labs says its agent technology is used by more than 775 brands across stadiums, theme parks and tourism organisations, with around 40 % of conversations at sports venues leading to ticket sales.

Smaller tourism businesses in Mexico report gains and risks
A study by Google and Advertiser Perceptions, covering 175 small and medium businesses and 101 large advertisers in Mexico, found 82 % of smaller firms saw a direct, positive impact from AI on sales and profitability, against 77 % of larger ones, and 75 % said the savings generated were reinvested in local hiring. Car rental firm Mex Rent a Car reported bookings up 14 % and quarterly revenue up 34 % after using Google’s AI Max tool. Separately, small Mexican businesses, including restaurants and a barbershop, described using ChatGPT and Gemini to create logos and adverts instead of hiring a designer. A Getty Images study cited in the same article found that a company can lose around 47 % of potential customers once they identify AI-generated or edited images.

Travel agencies cut headcount while keeping revenue
At the IFTM travel trade show, Worldia co-founder Erwan Corre said the company had reduced its workforce by 40 % after adopting AI, while keeping revenue and customer satisfaction unchanged. He expects a European consensus of a 25 % drop in staffing needs across the sector within two to three years. Travelsoft’s Charles Tandonnet described a shift in which AI drives much of the work and staff move from doing tasks to checking them. Valérie Boned, head of Les Entreprises du Voyage, said this is already making it harder for young graduates to enter the sector, as AI now absorbs research tasks once given to juniors.

Hotels adapt marketing for AI-powered search
Hotel group Accor is shifting from traditional search engine optimisation towards "generative engine optimisation", so its properties appear among recommendations made by tools such as ChatGPT, according to its Chief Data & AI Officer. Getmint, a company that helps large groups appear in AI-generated answers, counts Accor among its clients alongside L’Oréal and BNP. Le Monde describes the sector as reaching what one commentator called "a tipping point" as AI inserts itself into every stage of trip planning, from inspiration to booking. Airbnb is adjusting its platform to work with AI agents, with chief executive Brian Chesky arguing such agents need a purpose-built operating system, as the company faces growing competition from tools like ChatGPT for travel planning.

Hospitality adoption still trails other sectors
Research by Ramp and Revelio Labs, covering more than 21,000 US companies, found that by the end of 2025 around a quarter of firms had adopted AI tools under a sustained-spending criterion, but adoption varied sharply by sector: 53.7 % in information services and 43.6 % in finance and insurance, against just 11–15 % in healthcare, construction, hospitality and restaurants, and arts and entertainment. Companies investing most intensively in AI showed employment levels around 10.2 % higher than non-adopters after 24 months, with junior hiring rising even faster among intensive adopters. The study gives no breakdown specific to hospitality beyond this overall sector adoption figure.

Regional funds target tourism among priority sectors
In the Comunitat Valenciana, regional innovation agency Ivace+i has allocated close to €200 million between 2021 and 2027 to strategic technologies including AI, as part of the European STEP strategy to reduce technological dependence. According to external relations director José María Chiquillo, this funding favours consortiums pairing SMEs with larger companies, and targets three sectors: health, agrifood and tourism. One funded project, RoDat, led by the Universitat Politècnica de València with partners including Nunsys and Robotnik, applied AI and big data to predictive maintenance of industrial robots and cut electricity costs by up to 40 % in real-world tests.
