Hiring of young people on permanent contracts falls in roles exposed to generative AI

A study by the Banque de France and HEC, widely covered this week, documents a clear decline in permanent-contract hiring of young people in the roles most exposed to generative AI. The "Osez l’IA" plan reviews its first year: interest among SME and mid-sized company leaders has risen sharply, but industrialisation remains limited. Several studies also point to a governance gap in AI adoption, and to costs that often exceed budgets.

Method

Articles come from a list of media outlets, institutions and blogs maintained by the studio, supplemented by searches in Google News. An article is included in the AI watch only if it deals with the use of AI in businesses or organisations.

An initial screening, based on the title and the opening of the article, removes those that are off topic (Claude Haiku 4.5, by Anthropic). The summaries and classification are then produced by an AI model (Claude Sonnet 5, by Anthropic) from the article. Each figure included is accompanied by the exact sentence from the article that gives it, checked word for word. The date shown is that of the original publication, and each entry indicates where it was read.

When a publisher blocks access to its pages or opts out of AI text and data mining, only the title and the standfirst of the article are used, and the entry says so.

Entries and digests are then translated from French by Claude Sonnet 5.5.
